NAI's mission is to inspire leadership and excellence to advance heritage interpretation as a profession. NAI provides benefits to members who work at parks, public forests, historic sites, museums, nature centers, aquariums, and anywhere that informal heritage education programs are offered to the public—all of them "places people visit." Our members include guides, rangers, managers, curators, interpretive specialists, and those who design exhibits for interpretive or visitor centers.
We work for the day when America’s public lands are understood and appreciated, preserved and conserved, and enjoyed by all. The most direct way to realize this vision is to ensure that public lands have strong nonprofit partners with the capacity to galvanize private support, catalyze change and take strategic risks.
For more than four decades, NAAEE has been a leader in promoting excellence in environmental education throughout North America. It is the only national membership organization dedicated to strengthening the field of environmental education and increasing the visibility and effectiveness of the profession.
